Vol. 1 -- School & Romance Comedy
By AstroNerdBoy
On a surface, "School Rumble" might seem like only another manga pretension traffic with high propagandize life, or in this case, high propagandize crushes. However, for me, manga-ka Jin Kobayashi-sensei has taken a opposite proceed that formula in some unequivocally good humor.
The manga has dual categorical characters since it has dual associated stories it follows. The initial deals with Tsukamoto Tenma (name displayed Japanese character with a family-name first). She's a 2nd-year high propagandize tyro who's in adore with associate 2nd-year tyro Karasuma Ouji (name displayed Japanese style). So her story deals with her attempts to confess her adore to Karasuma-kun and her attempts to get closer to him. Of course, things are never that simple, as I'm certain many of us rescall from a possess high propagandize days. ^_^;
The second story deals with Harima Kenji (name Japanese style), who's a critical punk and delinquent. However, this tough, mean-looking man has a debility -- he's depressed in adore with associate 2nd-year tyro Tsukamoto Tenma-chan. He too has good problem in expressing his feelings for Tenma-chan, yet is a lot like her includinge doing opposite things to try to get closer to her.
There are a integrate of special chapters during a finish of volume 1 where Tenma's younger sister Yakumo is a star. Those are a fun side-track to a categorical story.
So, what sets this apart? For me, carrying a story follow Tenma and Kenji starts it. With Kenji in adore with Tenma and she in adore with Ouji-kun, we have an odd, yet picturesque unrequited love-triangle. Tenma is unknowingly that Kenji loves her and Ouji is unknowingly that Tenma loves him. Plus, it is only humorous examination a Japanese hood carrying this unequivocally good heart inside as he tries to find a approach to get Tenma-chan's courtesy and so her heart.
Further, what done this some-more than only humorous were a astonishing things that would occur during a march of a chapter. we was reading this in a watchful room of a Doctor's bureau and during times had to unequivocally enclose myself from only shouting my self silly. Kobayashi-sensei has Tenma-chan and Kenji-kun go to a impassioned during times, yet since those extremes weren't expected, it done it funnier for me.
I have to give some props to translator & English adaptor William Flanagan. There were a lot of Japanese puns in this, and we know that's formidable to understanding with. However, he creates good use of Del Rey's "Translator Notes" territory during a finish of a manga to explain those informative puns and how he worked a translations. So we appreaciate that a lot. Plus there are a lot of records in this volume (a good thing) and some of William's records are created from a 1st-person viewpoint that is a good touch.
Being a Del Rey title, full use of honorifics are used in a title, that for this fan is always a good thing.
Bottom line: Very funny, easily drawn, and only a lot of fun to read. I'm not certain since it was rated age 16+ since there is roughly no fanservice and not most violence, yet don't let that rating stop we from purchasing this.

not a must-read, but...
By M. Elzen
I only finished reading this one. I've examination a lot of a scanlations before, though, and had suspicion that a array is good adequate that we ought to during slightest buy a initial volume of it, so that a author does get some well-deserved cash, sort-of... But after reading a del Rey translation, we feel all fired-up and eager about School Rumble again, and we positively do intend to sequence a subsequent one as shortly as it's available. School Rumble has it's possess singular arrange of "zany"-ness, and it's only plain fun! Of march a tract is not unique, yet a approach a story is told, and takes a array of astonishing turns, well... Any one who's truly meddlesome in manga will be denying themselves a good thing if they don't during slightest take a good look-thru of School Rumble...

Welcome to High School... where Love is a Battle!
By N. S. Michael
It is here, in a tradition of large regretful comedies before them, that Tsukamoto Tenma and Harima Kenji salary a array of decorated and approach over a tip Special Operations to secure a affections of their tip crushes. Unfortunately, and typically, their crushes have no thought they are desired from not-so-far divided (say, a only a chair over).
Tenma, is conduct over heels for a still cold of Karasuma-san, while Kenji moons over Tenma who is, of course, oblivious. All this leads to large hijinks, mislaid/unsigned adore letters, bullet-time arrow slinging, a rousing diversion of Old Maid, and a derelict station on a lumber wearing peacock feathers.
Confused? Just go with it, my friends...
Also enclosed are a few stories concerning Tenma's younger sister Yakumo, her several suitors (plus one Thunder Child), and a black cat.
The cheese is so thick, you'd consider we were in Wisconsin... yet don't let that worry you. School Rumble is a fun small comedic intrigue with frail art and pacing. Sure it's a small seared situation/plot-wise, yet it's still an beguiling read.
